POSITION OBJECTIVE: This is the first level in the series. Incumbents are responsible for monitoring and securing special needs and other students. Monitors bus equipment use and student behavior and safety.
|
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
|
- Ensures the safe loading and unloading of students to and from destinations, to include operation of specialized equipment for attending to students with special needs, including car seats, wheelchairs, seat belts, lifts, and/or other applicable equipment.
- Monitors daily school bus activities to ensure proper student conduct at all times, and adherence to appropriate disciplinary controls.
- Performs routine cleaning and bus maintenance activities, to include attending to spills and cleaning of body fluids.
- Responds to and/or resolves inquiries and/or concerns from parents, demonstrating compassion and understanding.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: (positions in this class typically require):
High School Diploma, or G.E.D.; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: (positions in this class typically require):
Licensing Requirements:
· Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR Certifications within 30 days of employment;
· Ability to complete wheelchair and special needs handling training.
· Applicants recommended for hire will receive instructions on how to obtain a fingerprint clearance card as a condition of employment.

Skill in:
· Providing customer service;
· Maintaining order among students on a bus;
· Operating, maneuvering and/or controlling the actions of safety restraint and wheelchair lift devices
· Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 125 pounds of force for testing, up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to fumes, odors, and extreme temperatures.
