POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The job of Director of Programming and Database Administration is done for the purpose(s) of designing, writing and supporting computer database systems, including the computerized student information system at the district and site levels; supporting the school sites in the management of school site data; and providing technical support, training, data oversight, and compliance with state accountability expectations. The position will also lead the process in the design, development, implementation and maintenance of a data warehouse system for the purpose of supporting improved student achievement.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

 

·         Oversee and coordinate the development interface programs for the purpose of automating data                    transfers between information systems

·         Design and code applications solving business issues.

·         Develop diagrams and flow charts on computer operation process.

·         Develop, test and analyze programming applications.

·         Determine, develop and document software specifications throughout production lifecycle.

·         Analyze and rectify software errors and present precise status reports on time.

·         Build and develop applications using computer languages such as ASP.net, XTML, JAVA, C#, Bootstrap and Python.

·         Upgrade and offer patches to existing computer systems.

·         Develop technical documentation to support application maintenance.

·         Support stakeholders and analysts to conceptualize and develop new software programs.

·         Oversee and coordinate the development of client/server and web-based applications for the purpose of meeting district, department and school data requirements

·         Serve as the district’s database administrator for all district information systems, including student information systems and accounting systems

·         Design, implement and support database solutions that will improve the use of a data-driven decision making model in support of improved student achievement

·         Administer the control, integrity and accessibility of all district-supported information systems and databases

·         Create, maintain, and tune system database structures

·         Coordinate support and development with software and hardware providers to effectively integrate, support and secure data systems

·         Perform research on database features, technologies, and tools

·         Provide training to personnel as appropriate for the purpose of ensuring the safe and secure use of district data

·         Develop reports and queries for the purpose of assisting others in the effective and efficient completion of their activities and in achieving district goals

·         Oversee and coordinate the development interface programs for the purpose of automating data transfers between information systems

·         Oversee and coordinate the development of client/server and web-based applications for the purpose of meeting district, department and school data requirements

·         Perform the installation, configuration and upgrading migration of MSSQL server software and related products

·         Evaluate Microsoft SQL new features and Microsoft SQL related products

·         Develop, establish and maintain sound data backup recovery policies and procedures ensuring that appropriate storage, archiving, backup and recovery processes are performed

·         Design, implement and maintain database security policies for users and roles, assign privileges and data access

·         Maintain control of user accounts and database access according to district policies and guidelines

·         Perform data audits to ensure accuracy and validation

·         Coordinate software upgrades and maintenance pertinent to the student information system for the purpose of satisfying compliance with vendor and state requirements and specifications

·         Certify student information system status and functionality for the purpose of guaranteeing budgetary relief for the district from the vendor

·         Facilitate the data integration between the student information system and other information systems and databases (district and external vendors) for the purpose of uploading, merging, downloading, extracting, and/or importing student information and other data

·         Manage and secure data systems against data corruption and intrusion for the purpose of protecting student data

·         Coordinate the daily operation of the student information system with regard to each district module used by district and site users for the purpose of compiling accurate data and analyzing data outputs

·         Respond to user inquiries for the purpose of answering questions, providing data, problem-solving, and/or managing database systems

·         Provide training to school site personnel with regard to the student information and SAIS reporting and data management modules, software and hardware for the purpose of employee competency

·         Upgrade and increase knowledge of current software systems by attending training or requesting additional support from administration for the purpose of professional development

·         Work collaboratively and cooperatively with all district student information system and SAIS users for the purpose of supporting the student information system

·         Knowledgeable of Microsoft SQL server farms, replication, scale-up and scale-out technologies and how to implement, add-to, and maintain

·         Be able to implement/perform load balancing/tuning

·         Extensive knowledge of Microsoft SQL database languages up to and including SQL 2012 and other database languages as appropriate

·         Works with minimal supervision and is responsive to budgets and timelines

·         Other duties as assigned

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):

 

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent

·         Extensive programming experience with ASP.net, XTML, JAVA, C#, Bootstrap and Python.

·         Minimum of 3 to 5 years relevant work experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

 

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

 

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.

Return To Work Retirees will have an hourly rate approximately 9% lower than listed below without falling below minimum wage.
